Helping hurting children and their families in the name of Jesus Christ.

As we enter our 20th year of answering our Lord's call to assist these children, we now feel our leading us on an expansion project that will grow CSF to children's hospitals throughout our country.  HE has given us a ten year plan to put the necessary infrastructure together.   Listed below our three goals HE has given us to accomplish:

Our Lord’s 3-tier plan for 2026

1.   Fund Atlanta which is our biggest challenge.  In 2024 we provided $ 45,005.14 in support to Atlanta kiddos and their families with no fundraising.  By January 1, 2027, we need partners in Atlanta to provide $ 50,000 per year in support for five years. Within that five-year period, we feel we can build a team to conduct fundraising events totaling $50,000.  Our goal is for these partners to be in the Atlanta area: individuals, churches, businesses, and other entities.

2.    Expand our Vision program, which began in 2016 with the goal of supporting staffing needs to provide an additional $ 50,000 per year to help Becky, my wife, as the foundation grows.  Currently we have approximately 35 donors at amounts ranging from $ 10 per month to $200 per month. Our annual total is around $ 12,000.  We need a total of 50 partners at the $100 per month level.  For the last five years we have had no paid staff.  Becky is our case manager, and she is not paid.

3. Create a fund of approximately $3,000,000 to use the interest to fund our expansion for 10 years, January 2027-January 2037.  Our plan is to approach individuals, businesses, and other entities to allow us to use the interest on this $ 3,000,000 for 10 years.  These funds can stay in the donors’ accounts and allow us, only if needed and in the arrears, to access the earnings on a quarterly basis beginning April 1, 2027.  The ultimate goal over this ten-year period is to buy us time to build the infrastructure necessary to support our growth throughout the country over many years to come.

If the vision the Lord is giving us is accurate, and we believe He is working, we will touch the lives of over 10,000 children within this ten-year period, and in the years after with the infrastructure in place tens of thousands of hurting children's lives can be touched.

Many years ago, at Wolfson Julie Handley, the director of Wolfson Children's Hospital Foundation in Jacksonville, Florida at the time, made the following statement and I am recalling from my memory:

"The value of Christ's Starfish Foundation to us here at Wolfson Children's Hospital is that you give our children their parents back, and they need their parents to get better."

If that statement is accurate, and all the hospital workers I have ever talked to agree it is, then our work with these thousands of children can help them get better and that is a really cool thing.

We would love to have you as a partner in any of the above areas if our Lord leads you to join us on this Journey with Christ. Thank you.

The “Call”

Christ’s Starfish Foundation began on August 7, 2006, with an event that Carldon Lahey thought would take his life. In actuality it was our Lord calling him to begin a ministry that, over 7 months later, would become Christ’s Starfish Foundation. For the last 19 years, through the efforts of an amazingly dedicated and supportive Board, extremely effective leadership in each city, and hundreds of hard-working volunteers, Christ’s Starfish Foundation has touched the lives of approximately 15,000 children with support totaling over 2 million dollars.

$1,271,641 of Family Support

As of December 31, 2024, our total support to the families of these deserving children is $1,271,641 to 2,954 families. This is in addition to  Christmas presents delivered to approximately 11,893 children valued around $749,000. When CSF began as described above never in our wildest dreams did we imagine this. When our Lord called us, we did not even know where we were going or what we would be doing. Like Abraham when Jesus called, we obeyed.

Partners Needed

As we have moved through the COVID-19 years and continue our journey with our Lord we need partners. We feel our Lord calling us to assist more non cancer children and their families in additional hospitals and cities. Please know, very importantly, we are one of the few, if not only, organization focused on providing support for non-cancer conditions. In a vast number of children’s hospitals, and all 13 of the hospitals we currently serve, over 80% of the patients are non-cancer. Please consider partnering with us with your donation on this web site, sponsoring an event, or asking others to join us in this journey with Christ. 100% of your donation will go directly to our work as our Board pays all our administrative expenses and we have no salaried employees.
Thank you for your consideration and may God bless.

Our Story

Christ’s Starfish Foundation is a 501(c) (3) Christian organization that helps hurting children and their families children at 13 hospitals in four states including Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, and Indiana. We do this by providing two services. First we provide support to the child life specialists for all of the hospitals we serve. One of the biggest ways we do this is to provide Christmas presents to the children who are in the hospital on Christmas Day.

We also provide support to the families of children with non-cancer illnesses. The hospitalization of a child requires that at least one parent be with them during their stay. This often results in missed work and no pay. Examples of expenses we may help with would include rent or mortgage payments, electric bills, phone bills, gas expense, and food.

What’s in a Name?

Some people ask about our name. Have you ever heard the story of the little boy picking up starfish on the beach? He picked them up one by one andput them back into the ocean. A man who had been watching from far off approached him and said, “Son there are hundreds of starfish on the beach, you will never be able to save them all.” The little boy stooped down, picked up a starfish and with a grin on his face, tossed it into the ocean. He then turned to the man and said, “I made a difference to that one.” At Christ’s Starfish Foundation that is all we are trying to do. We are trying to make a difference, one hurting family at a time.
